Divorce excess: the “Soviet style” family is typical for Muslim regions and... Moscow and St. Petersburg

Reasons for breaking up relationships

Family divorce statistics indicate the following reasons:

  • approximately 42% of couples separated due to unpreparedness for family life (psychologically or physically). During the dates, it seemed that this would always be the case, and the union registered at the registry office would only strengthen the relationship. However, after marriage, an understanding comes of how different the spouses are. Each of them requires constant attention to itself. While reciprocity is practically absent, which leads to systemic conflicts;
  • 31% of women and 23% of men say that their partner’s alcoholism or drug addiction led to divorce;
  • 15% of wives and 12% of husbands demand a divorce due to the infidelity of their other half;
  • 9% of women file for divorce because their partners do not help them with household chores. Although it is noted that 40% of men do this along with their wife;
  • 3.1% of couples separate due to the monotony of daily life;
  • 1.8% of families separate due to financial problems;
  • 1.6% disagree on financial issues;
  • 1.5% of spouses cannot stand their partner’s jealous suspicions;
  • 0.8% disagree due to sexual dissatisfaction;
  • 0.2% of couples break up due to infertility of one of the partners.

These are the main reasons for divorce according to statistics. In this case, who exactly initiated the divorce plays a big role. According to statistics, men say the following after divorce:

  • 37% get divorced due to lack of close relationships;
  • 29% lacked tenderness and affection;
  • 14% broke up due to irregular sex life;
  • 14% felt like they were in prison;
  • 9% did not have enough attention and care.

Psychologists say that if spouses in a family trusted each other and were not afraid to voice their opinions, then the divorce statistics in the world would be significantly lower.

Reasons for the high divorce rate in the modern world

The main reason why marriages have lasted so short in recent decades is the expansion of social boundaries.

If you look at 150-200 years into the past, you can see that most people lived in rural areas, in communities that were very limited in number. At the same time, they had fairly strict rules.

For small and strictly structured communities, it was not beneficial for families to break up and be recreated. This would lead to the decline of the economy. Also, in many countries at that time the church had significantly more power than it does now.

And in all Abrahamic religions, divorce is highly condemned. Nowadays people have become much less religious. Even many of those who consider themselves adherents of Christianity do not know, and, therefore, do not observe the laws that are characteristic of this belief.

There has been an explosion of urbanization in recent decades. In all civilized countries, villages have fallen into disrepair. Now the vast majority of society lives in cities, where it is very easy to find a new partner.

But the divorce rate began to increase most significantly in the mid-00s. This time is characterized by the strongest growth in Internet availability. The emergence of social networks and dating sites has literally washed away social taboos and difficulties.

So, if previously single people had to look for a partner for months or years, now this can be done in a few days through a special application.

The statistics are further worsened by the fact that over the last hundred years women have become greatly emancipated. Now they have to worry less about their financial situation after a divorce. Because of this, it is now much easier for women to agree to end official relationships.

Russian divorces

Many people mistakenly believe that divorce was rare in the Soviet Union. But that's not true. This is where the highest percentage of divorces occurred. The USSR ranked first among countries in the world. People actually disagreed, but they did not try to advertise this fact officially. After the collapse of the USSR, the CIS emerged. The number of divorced marriages has increased sharply. The three leaders were:

  1. Russia – 51%.
  2. Belarus – 45%.
  3. Ukraine – 42%.

Today, Rosstat again confirms that the number of divorce proceedings in Russia is in the lead. Despite the law, which gives spouses time to reconcile, only 7% withdraw their applications. At the end of 11 months of 2021, there were 472.3 thousand divorces out of 843.9 thousand marriages.

Divorce statistics in Russia in percentage:

  • 41% of couples separate due to alcoholism or drug addiction;
  • 14% due to lack of own living space;
  • 14% due to the intervention of relatives who want to help the young family;
  • 8% due to lack of children;
  • 6% due to a long-term absence of a partner from home (work in another city or abroad);
  • 2% due to imprisonment;
  • 1% due to serious illness of one of the partners.

These are the main reasons for divorce in Russia according to statistics. However, according to Rosstat, divorce statistics could have been different if not for the stopping factors:

  • 35% of couples are kept by children;
  • 30% do not want to divide jointly acquired property;
  • 22% do not get divorced because one partner is financially dependent on the other;
  • 18% of couples live because one of the spouses does not want to end their marriage.

Statistical data

The country's registry offices keep statistics that are disappointing. The difference between the number of marriages and divorces is decreasing. Young people prefer civil marriage, not taking into account the fact that this type of relationship does not give people living together rights and responsibilities towards each other.

On years

Survey statistics indicate an increase in the number of divorces in Russia. The table shows statistics on marriages and divorces in Russia over several years.

Year Number of marriages Number of divorces % of divorces
2015 1161068 611646 52,67%
2016 985836 608336 61,70%
2017 1049725 611428 58,24%

Who files for divorce more often?

It is believed that the initiator is often a woman, as a more sensitive and emotional person.
She endures the inconveniences of family life and lack of satisfaction for a long time, but when she nevertheless decides to divorce, it is difficult to dissuade her, since by that time her patience is overflowing. The spouse often also does not strive to preserve the family; he is satisfied with a free life. In 70% of cases, it is the wife who initiates the divorce. But a survey of men revealed a number of reasons that they, for their part, consider objective for divorce:

  • lack of trust;
  • spouse's alcohol addiction;
  • lack of sexual satisfaction;
  • infertility;
  • everyday problems.

Only after 50 years, family breakdown occurs more often on the initiative of a man. Adult children who have entered an independent life and lost interest in their spouse are the most common reasons given by those surveyed.

It is worth noting that the critical period is considered to be the years of marriage, from the fifth to the ninth. More than 25 percent of divorces in Russia occurred during this period. Couples who have been married for one or two years often break up.

Cheating statistics

One of the main factors in the breakdown of marriages is infidelity.
More than half of married people have married lovers, only 10% have relationships with single women. These sad data are associated with misunderstanding between spouses and the reluctance of each of them to give in. Some fads have negative health consequences. Many spouses are satisfied with such a life, but secret relationships are sooner or later discovered. The most negative thing is that about 30% of children imitate the behavior of their parents. Although men cheat more often, some ladies are not far behind them.

They justify their betrayal with the following reasons:

  • frequent absence of a spouse;
  • dissatisfaction in marriage;
  • spouse's drunkenness;
  • resort flirting;
  • revenge for betrayal.

The blame for separation due to infidelity lies with both spouses, who, instead of struggling with the difficulties of family life, seek satisfaction on the side.

Life after divorce

The breakdown of a marriage is a kind of transition to a new life, when the past remains in memories, and new hopes arise for the future. To live further, you need to reconsider your own self-esteem and believe in the future.

First of all, a person needs to find balance and accept himself. Even a painful divorce will restore adequate self-esteem. You shouldn’t immediately try to look for a replacement to fill the empty niche. We need to look forward, not look back to the past.

New acquaintances must be considered taking into account the family experience gained. If your previous marriage broke up due to infidelity, you don’t need to carry this burden with you.

A woman searches for meaning in every day, gradually calming down and relaxing. Life should be filled with activities, but sometimes you should be alone with yourself. Survey data show that every fourth “ex” wants everything back after a divorce. But whether she needs it, the woman will understand herself. After all, she only felt free and happy.

World statistics

Every year the number of couples legally married decreases. The number of divorces in the world is off the charts.

According to divorce statistics in the world, there are 10 countries with the highest percentages:

  1. Hungary.
  2. Sweden.
  3. Czech Republic.
  4. Portugal.
  5. Ukraine.
  6. USA.
  7. Russia.
  8. Belgium.

As you can see, only 60% of families do not break up before 4 years of married life. Statistics on divorce by age indicate that the peak occurs when the husband and wife are 20–30 years old. It has also been proven that if an official marriage is concluded before the age of thirty, then there is a 50% chance that it will be long. However, the same cannot be said for couples who marry after thirty.

At an earlier age, it is much easier to adapt to your partner and adapt to new responsibilities. Over the years, it becomes more and more difficult to change your habits - this leads to misunderstanding and divorce.

Who is to blame for the divorce? Spouses were interviewed by age group (20–40 years). According to VTsIOM, the answers have remained virtually unchanged over 10 years – plus or minus 1%:

Statistics on age at marriage

What about the age of those getting married? In recent times, we can talk about an increase in the number of marriage registrations between men and women whose age exceeds 25 years . This phenomenon is considered relatively new, since in the years after the war and up to 1990, the age of people who got married was lower.

The trend to marry after 25 years of age emerged in the mid-90s.

Since the early 2000s, marriage rates for people aged 25-35 have exceeded those of 25 years ago. And by 2010, the 25-30 age group overtook 18-24 year olds in terms of the number of marriages .

And in general, among the young group of people there is a decrease in marriage activity, this is especially noticeable if we compare the statistics of our days and the statistics of 20 years ago. It should also be noted that marriages under the age of 18 among men and women in Russia have become statistically uninteresting, introducing a small number of early marriages.

Data for men

Consider the age of men who marry. So the first place in this list is occupied by the age group of 25-30 years, it accounts for about 33% of marriages , i.e. about a third of all marriages. Together with this age group, the groups from 20-25 and from 30-35 years old make up about 75% of all marriages.

It turns out that if we take a wider range, it turns out that men aged 20-35 years are the undisputed majority , because only 25% remain for other older and younger groups.

Marriages under 18 account for only 0.1%. Another interesting fact is that there are 0.5% more marriages among men over 60 than among men aged 18-19.

Data for women

As for women, the situation is as follows. The largest percentage was the group aged 20-25 years (about 38%) , followed by the group aged 25-30 years (about 27%). The age group of 30-35 years old occupies 12% of the total, and thus it turns out that these three age groups of 20-35 years old occupy 77%.

Thus, we can say with confidence that almost all marriages that take place among both men and women are concluded between the ages of 20-35 .

At the same time, official divorce statistics in Russia have decreased. The main reason is that many couples do not want to register their union and live in a civil marriage. Such cohabitation can last for a long time, but without children. With the arrival of the baby, most parents decide to legalize their relationship. An analysis of divorce statistics in Russia shows that such families are much less likely to apply for divorce.

However, not all couples are given a divorce. If the spouse is pregnant, then there can be no talk of any dissolution of the marriage. When a child is born, the father is required to stay with him for up to one year. If the situation has not changed during this time, then the spouses will be divorced without the consent of the wife.

Divorce statistics in Russia by year indicate that over the past 50 years, broken unions in relation to marriages have not differed much in terms of numbers. But divorce statistics for 5 years, including 2021, show that the number of divorced families remains almost unchanged, which cannot be said about the number of officially registered marriages - there are fewer of them.

Divorce statistics in Moscow over the past year show a decrease in their number compared to the previous year. However, the number of applications for marriage registration has also decreased. In St. Petersburg, too, similar dynamics are observed as in Moscow. Divorce statistics by year show that the lower the number of registrations, the less often divorce occurs.

Table of marriages and divorces by recent years

This issue is of concern, and therefore it is subject to constant monitoring. Various surveys and studies are conducted on divorces, which are later structured into statistics. Statistics on the number of marriages and divorces in Russia are carried out by the Federal State Statistics Service.

YearMarriages registeredNumber of divorces
20101215066639321
20111316011669376
20121213598644101
20131225501667971
20141225985693730

Based on these data, we can conclude that the number of registered marriages has practically remained at the same level for 5 years, only in 2011 there was a jump of 100 thousand. If we calculate the number of marriages per 1000 people, we get about 8.5.

Now let's see how things stand with divorces at the same time intervals. We see that within 5 years, the number of divorces ranges from 600-700 thousand. If we calculate the number of divorces per 1000 people, it turns out to be about 4.7.

Based on statistics on marriages and divorces, we find that half of all marriages break up. The statistics are very, very disappointing and this trend is becoming common in Russia.

Divorce and children

What are the statistics on divorce after the birth of a child? For many couples, no matter how many years they have been married, the birth of their first child leaves an imprint on the relationship between the spouses. The main reason is psychological unpreparedness for drastic changes, as the usual schedule of living together is disrupted.

Statistics on divorces with children confirm this fact. Every second marriage dissolution occurs shortly after the birth of the baby. But divorce is not the main reason why many children are without a parent. Over the past 5 years, their number has increased by 30%. The explanation is simple - many women give birth without a husband. Wikipedia will tell you about this view of life in more detail.

If Russian children raised in single-parent families make up approximately 56%, then in Ukraine it is about 70%. Psychologists have noted that it is more difficult for such students to create a strong family in the future, which leads to an increase in the number of divorces according to statistics.

Increasing number of divorces

In European countries, the USA, and also in Russia, the number of broken marriages is constantly growing. Only in countries professing Islam does the family remain an unshakable structure of society.

This issue is acute in many countries. Almost each of them conducts its own research, which tries to identify the most common reasons leading to the breakdown of marital ties.

The family is the unit of society. Recently, the gender issue has made the concept of marriage ambiguous, and same-sex families have appeared. In some European countries, such marriages are registered along with traditional ones.

Society's attitude towards the divorce procedure has changed. According to VTsIOM, almost 90% of the Russian population considers it acceptable for some reasons.

Behavior of spouses after divorce

Statistics after divorces noted the following fact: it is more difficult for a divorced woman, regardless of whether she has children or not, to remarry. The reason for such circumstances is the increased mortality of middle-aged men. After an unsuccessful marriage, only 27% of the fairer sex remarry. According to official divorce statistics, 15% of women in such unions do not re-apply for divorce.

For divorced men, the numbers are significantly different. Only 68% remarry. Among them, 73% find family happiness. It is worth noting that the divorce process has a negative impact on the health of the participants. In this case, men are more susceptible to the occurrence of diseases than women. For example, divorce is one of the main causes of myocardial infarction.

Do wives return to their ex-husbands after a breakup? Not all spouses understand that in order for them to get back together, they both need to analyze what happened, draw adequate conclusions and try to change something in themselves. If only one of the spouses does this, then everything will end like the first time. 28% of couples who have lived together for more than one year, some time after the divorce, realize what a mistake they made.

80% of men want to re-sign with their ex-wives. However, according to statistics, wives return after a divorce much less often. An analysis of the number of divorces in Russia according to statistics shows that a family can break up even after 29 years of marriage.

What is the situation with divorces in other countries?

Official data

In a divorce petition, the general phrase that appears most often is: “they don’t get along,” hiding something that is embarrassing to admit. What are the real reasons?

According to social surveys of the population, significant circumstances for divorce in modern families are:

  • alcoholism or drug addiction is a fundamental circumstance for 40% of Russians;
  • low standard of living, financial problems, lack of home - an impetus for 23% of respondents;
  • 15% of respondents believe that living with relatives and their interference in the family life of young people leads to divorce;
  • the impossibility or unwillingness of one of the spouses to have children pushes a couple to break up, according to 8% of survey participants;
  • 6% consider living in different cities due to shift work as a significant reason;
  • the presence of one of the spouses in prison is a significant reason for 2% of the population;
  • 1% of respondents are ready to get a divorce if the other half is diagnosed with an incurable disease.

Constant quarrels and conflicts, aggression, and sometimes family violence are one of the consequences of these reasons. The second consequence is adultery. Men and women have different psychology of the concept of betrayal leading to divorce. It is difficult for a woman to survive both the news that her husband has cheated on her physically and moral infidelity when a man becomes emotionally attached to another woman.

What reason is indicated by the spouses in the application? According to statistics, these are:

  • betrayal - 25%;
  • dissatisfaction with intimate life - 15%;
  • incompatible life goals and interests - 13%;
  • alcohol dependence - 7%.

A hasty decision to get married leads to divorce. 40% of broken couples think so. When the intention to get married is not properly thought through, is accepted after a short period of acquaintance on emotions, due to the news of pregnancy or under pressure from relatives, family relationships become strained and become heated to the limit.

Currently, the trend of early marriages is decreasing. Early marriages are considered to be marriages entered into before the partners reach the age of 18. Now the main age of those getting married is 25-30 years for men and 20-25 years for women. However, the number of divorces is not decreasing, but on the contrary, increasing. This partially refutes the stereotype that, according to statistics, early marriages end the fastest.

Moreover, statistics prove the opposite: marriages where newlyweds are less than 30 years old are more durable than marriages of mature people who legitimize relationships over the age of 30. Psychologists explain this for psychological reasons: at the age of 30, a person has already developed as a person, has his own habits, character, and way of life. Changing everything to suit the life of a partner is beyond the power of many. Young people are more flexible and adapt more easily to new conditions.

Mixed marriages are popular in our country. Conflicts between husbands and wives of different nationalities are common due to differences in mentality, differences in views on raising children, and non-acceptance of one of the spouses by relatives. Ultimately, they lead to the breakdown of a mixed marriage.

To save a marriage, the efforts of both spouses are required. It doesn’t matter whether the marriage is mixed or same-ethnic, early or late, civil or official: respect, the desire to hear your partner, the ability to negotiate will help preserve it.

The word “divorce” is often heard in English, French and other languages of the world. People all over the planet see nothing wrong with him.

One of the first places in the number of divorced people is occupied by Belgium, where out of 100 marriages, 70, that is, 70%, break up. The next countries in terms of divorce rates are Portugal, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Spain, where 65-67% of families separate. In the US, the number of divorced couples is approaching 50%.

The situation is a little better in Norwegian, German, Canadian and Australian homes, the number of divorces in them is about 40%. According to statistical studies, the strongest marriages are in Chile, where divorce statistics do not exceed 3%. A low number of divorces is observed in Asian countries, where family values are taught from childhood.

Governments in many countries are taking measures to protect marriage. So far they have been unsuccessful.

The problem of divorce is acute not only in our country; other countries are also in a disappointing situation. According to statistics, Portugal takes the lead among all countries, where 67% of marriages fail, that is, for every 100 marriages, there are about 67 divorces.

We invite you to read: At what age is pregnancy allowed in Ukraine?

The Czechs, Hungarians and Spaniards are not far behind the Portuguese; in these countries, the average divorce rate hovers around 65 percent.

The situation with divorces in the United States is approximately the same as in Russia, where about half of marriages end in divorce. Things are a little better in Norway, Germany, Australia and Canada, where the divorce rate is 40% or slightly more.

The Irish can boast of the stability of their relationships; in Ireland, only 15% of marriages end in divorce.

As we can see, Russia is not the country that tops this list, but there are many countries in which things are much better, and we have room for improvement.

Information on civil marriages

There is another situation - civil marriage. More and more couples do not formalize their marriage, but simply live in a civil marriage.

We suggest you read: Is it possible to build a house on lands for gardening, vegetable gardening and agricultural land?

A civil marriage is considered to be the cohabitation of citizens without registering the relationship with the registry office.

This trend again came to us from Europe. The leaders among civil marriages are France and Sweden.

As for Russia, the Institute of Demography presented data showing that about half of all couples in Russia live in a civil marriage. These words are confirmed by the fact that the total number of people who were married recently decreased from 65% to 57%.

About half of all couples choose not to officially marry. Main reasons:

  • Uncertainty about the partner;
  • Lack of housing for young people;
  • Fear of responsibility;
  • Absence of a child;
  • Prejudice. Some couples are confident that after registration their lives will change dramatically.

This trend came to Russia from Europe. France and Sweden are the world leaders in the number of civil marriages. So, the statistics of divorces in Russia is growing every year. There are more and more unregistered marriages.

There are no exact data for 2015 yet, but the approximate figure is 70/30%. There are plenty of reasons for official breaks in relations. One of them is the unstable situation in the country, which prevents people from developing and becoming financially independent. In addition, personal contradictions, alcoholism, the inability to have a child and infidelity literally attacked the country.

Divorces in Ukraine and Belarus

Divorce statistics in Belarus only confirm global trends. In 2021, 60.71 thousand marriages were registered. The number of divorces was 33.15 thousand. In terms of 1000 marriages, this is 546. That is, almost half of the families are breaking up. There are no data for 2019 yet.

The situation in Ukraine is somewhat different. In 2021, 228 thousand marriages were registered. The number of divorces amounted to 153.9 thousand. In terms of 1000 marriages, this is 673. In 2021, the situation has changed dramatically. For 237.9 thousand marriages, there were only 38.6 thousand divorces. In terms of 1000 marriages, this is 162.

Why you shouldn’t hope for the growth of marriage unions of the “zero” generation

In 2009, the republican authorities themselves did not forget to note civil marriages that were excluded from official statistics and treated them with undisguised dissatisfaction: by that time their number had more than doubled in 10 years. As officials summarized, this, “along with the extreme negative trends of early sexual activity and sexual promiscuity among a significant part of young people, provokes an increase in the number of children born out of wedlock.” Given that for the younger generation, the desire to get married at a young age is far from a priority, and the very concept of marriage has been quite devalued since Soviet times, one can hope and believe that statistical data on marriages will suddenly begin to raise the “post” in Stakhanov style. -millennials”, that is, those born already in the “zero”, is quite naive.

Finally, the last thing: the change in the demographic structure of the Republic of Tajikistan continues. Firstly, from 1990 to 2013, the decline in the rural population amounted to 42 thousand people. It is known that the rural population is more conservative in family matters than the urban population, and the percentage of marriages there is always higher. Secondly, for every 1,000 Tatarstan men there were 1,163 women.

It is interesting to compare the target indicators of the Tajik authorities with real data on divorces. Their number in Tatarstan has been falling since 2015, but in 2017 it increased slightly, reaching 13.5 thousand. However, the region reached record - that is, the lowest - indicators back in 2012 (12.7 thousand divorces). And here the reality turned out to be better than assumptions: by 2015, the authorities hoped to reduce the number of divorces to 15.4 thousand people, but they succeeded - to 13.5 thousand. In 2020, it was planned that 16.1 thousand divorces would take place, and if Judging by the trends of 2021, this program indicator can be achieved.

Tatarstan ranks 13th in terms of the number of divorces. In the first places are Moscow (45 thousand divorces), Moscow region (34.8 thousand), Krasnodar region (25.4 thousand), St. Petersburg (24.8 thousand) and Sverdlovsk region (19.9 thousand). ). In the Volga Federal District, the worst indicators are in Bashkortostan (15.5 thousand divorces), Samara (13.7 thousand) and Nizhny Novgorod regions (13.6 thousand).

Dynamics of divorces in Russia by region in 2018-2019

As for the situation in the Russian Federation, the highest rate of divorces was recorded in the Magadan and Leningrad regions (752). Next is the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug (748) and the Jewish Autonomous Region (741).

The main reasons for divorces in the Russian Federation

The analysis showed that last year in all regions of the Volga Federal District, except Mordovia, the number of divorce proceedings increased. The highest rate of divorces (per 1000 marriages) was noted in the Penza region - 655 divorces, the lowest - in Tatarstan (646).

Divorce statistics in Russia 2021 in percentage
