Federal Tax Service: TIN can be obtained in the taxpayer’s Personal Account

Submitting an application and required documents

As described above, issuing a TIN is a fairly easy procedure, because it does not require collecting a voluminous package of documentation. To submit an application, you only need to have the original and a copy of your identity document (passport).

The individual number itself is stored in the register, and the citizen is issued a document that indicates that the person has been issued a TIN.

Certificate of issue
You can obtain an individual taxpayer number in the following ways:

  • visit the Federal Tax Service office yourself;
  • through representatives;
  • through the Internet;
  • via physical mail.

Let's take a closer look at the procedure for obtaining a TIN online. This procedure is carried out through the official website of the Federal Tax Service.

TIN of a legal entity

An organization's TIN consists of 10 characters (Arabic numerals), and it also cannot be re-assigned to another organization (although there have been cases).

Assigned in the following cases:

TIN of Russian individuals and legal entitiesTIN of foreign individuals and legal entities
Upon creation, including through reorganization - at the location.When applying, on the basis of Art. 84 Tax Code of the Russian Federation.

Since the TIN is assigned once and “for life,” another code, KPP, has been introduced for legal entities. Or “reason code for tax registration.”

For tax purposes, INN is a universal ID by which you can find an organization (or individual). It is indicated in “letters of happiness”, it is asked when contacting by phone, with its help you can even view an extract from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities on the Federal Tax Service website.

However, due to the possible “duplication” of these numbers, it is better to use the OGRN, it has more numbers, and therefore the likelihood of “duplication” is less.

We create a TIN on the Federal Tax Service website

For a more convenient understanding, we will consider the process of obtaining a TIN through the Federal Tax Service website in the form of step-by-step instructions.

  1. We go to the official website of the Federal Tax Service at www.nalog.ru and enter your personal account through the “Individuals” column. In the right panel “Electronic Services”, click on the link “Submission of an individual’s application for registration.”

  3. After confirming your registration, an application form for obtaining a TIN will open in front of you. You will need to provide some information about yourself, as well as information about your citizenship.

    Enter
    Entering data on the application

Your further actions will differ significantly from each other depending on the presence of an individual electronic signature. Below we will consider each of the possible options.

I don't have an electronic signature

If you do not have a special electronic signature, then fill out the appropriate form. Carefully approach the procedure for filling out the fields, because errors when filling out are unacceptable. Otherwise, you simply will not be able to complete the TIN registration process, or it will be completed incorrectly, and you will not receive the document.

Form
Passport data filling form

After correctly filling out all application forms, the user is automatically assigned an individual registration number. Next, using the assigned registration number, you will be able to obtain a document confirming the assignment of a TIN at the Federal Tax Service office.

Moreover, you can pause the application at any time and continue from the stage at which you finished. In addition, you can monitor the current status of your application through the user’s personal account.

Registration
Registration of application

At the end of the registration process, it is important to click on the link below “Register an application and send it to the Federal Tax Service”.

I have an electronic signature

An electronic digital signature (EDS) is an integral element of any digital document. The functions of the digital signature are almost the same as the standard and familiar handwritten signature. This electronic signature is issued through centers that have been accredited by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.

If you have this signature, the procedure for obtaining a TIN is greatly simplified. If there is an electronic digital signature, then the document on registration of the individual taxpayer number can be received by mail or by email.

How to get a TIN if you have an electronic signature:

  1. Go to the official website of the Tax Service of the Russian Federation (nalog.ru) and download the “Legal Taxpayer” software.

    Page
    Download page for the Legal Entity Taxpayer program on the Federal Tax Service website

  2. According to the instructions, install the program on your computer.
  3. Using this software, you fill out an application in the form “2-2 – Accounting”. If you would like to receive a TIN registration certificate in electronic form, you also need to attach a request filled out in form “No. 3 – Accounting”.

    Statement
    Application on form No. 2-2-Accounting

  4. Using the same software, you need to prepare a transport container with an application that has a code and is signed with an individual electronic signature. If you would like to receive a TIN registration certificate in electronic form, you must also attach an encrypted and digitally signed request.
  5. Next, the prepared container is sent for processing, after which you will receive information about the results of processing the submitted application and receive a document confirming the registration of an individual taxpayer number.

Regardless of whether you have an electronic signature or not, you can easily leave an application and receive a TIN on the official website of the Federal Tax Service.

Restoring TIN through MFC

The MFC is only an intermediary between the citizen and the Federal Tax Service, so the process may take longer. It may take up to 7 business days from submitting an application to receiving a duplicate.

You should know that not every MFC branch provides such a service. You can find out more information about a specific department by phone. Contacts are listed on the official website of the MFC (https://mfc.rf). Just select “sign up in queue”, find your locality and the desired branch.

You must contact the MFC in person . Provide standard documents. You can make an appointment in advance or pick up a ticket on the spot and wait for your turn. The employee who accepts the documents will issue a notification receipt. In it you can see the approximate date of readiness of the duplicate. They issue it in the same department.

An authorized person can submit documents and pick up a completed duplicate at the MFC. This requires a notarized power of attorney. The package of documents should not contain the passport of the person who lost the TIN, but a certified photocopy of it.

Restoring a TIN involves obtaining a duplicate of a previously issued certificate. The unique code is retained. The recovery process takes only a few days and can be carried out in different ways. The package of documents is minimal, and the state duty is small. You can find out the TIN online before issuing a printed duplicate.

Obtaining a certificate

At the moment, there are several options for obtaining a certificate via the Internet.

  • You, or your authorized representative, have the opportunity to receive a paper TIN registration document at the inpatient department of the Federal Tax Service. Upon receipt, you only need to provide an identification document. In the case of a proxy, you must present the passport of the proxy, as well as the person for whom the TIN was issued.
  • Certificate of assignment
    By mail. The certificate is sent to the address specified during registration by registered mail.

  • By email. In this case, you can receive a TIN registration document in PDF format by e-mail or download from the website. The document must have your signature in electronic digital format.

You can receive the document in the form most convenient for you. It all depends on your personal preferences and capabilities.

Package of documents

If you contact the Federal Tax Service office to restore your TIN in person, you will need:

  • completed application, prescribed form;
  • identification;
  • document confirming registration at the place of residence;
  • a receipt confirming the paid state duty.

An application for TIN restoration can be submitted by a representative. In this case, the list of documents is the same, but a photocopy of the document is additionally required to confirm authority.

When sending papers by mail, you must include an application and a receipt for payment of the state duty. The remaining documents from the list must be photocopied and certified.

Decoration for a child

The application procedure for a child under 14 years of age is identical. It is worth noting that only parents and guardians, that is, legal representatives, can prepare the document. Persons over 14 years of age can issue a TIN registration document in person and without the participation of parents or guardians.

It is important to remember that when filling out the fields of the application, you must indicate the details of the child, not his parent.

Does a child need a TIN?

Drawing up a TIN registration document may be useful for a child in some cases:

  • When transferring an inheritance to a child under 14 years of age.
  • Purchasing and registering a vehicle or real estate in the child’s name.
  • When employing a minor child.
  • If a child wants to open his own business.

For a child
A TIN is required for a minor if he is engaged in trading activities and makes profit from it.

Minor artists and athletes also need an individual tax number, because their fees are also considered income and must be taxed. Moreover, an individual number can be requested by the kindergarten or educational institution where the child wants to enroll.

It is important to note that no institution can require a child to have a TIN. By and large, the child will need this document when applying for a job. Under 14 years of age, an individual taxpayer number is not required.

At what age can you get a TIN?

A taxpayer number is assigned to any citizen of the Russian Federation from the moment he (more precisely, his legal representative) receives a birth certificate. From this moment on, there is an entry in the Unified State Register of Real Estate, and a number (which is in the format XXXXXXX) has already been assigned to it. Accordingly, you can obtain a “TIN certificate” from the moment you receive your birth certificate. Why might this be necessary? If taxable property is registered in the name of a child, if he starts working under an employment contract, in general, he becomes a taxpayer.

But the TIN in full (and it will contain the number in the Unified State Register) is assigned to a citizen in the following cases:

  • at the place of residence;
  • at the place of residence (in the absence of a place of residence of an individual on the territory of the Russian Federation);
  • at the location of the real estate or vehicle (if the individual does not have a place of residence (place of stay) on the territory of the Russian Federation).

Registration of an individual with the tax authority is carried out on the basis of clause 7 of Art. 83 Tax Code of the Russian Federation. The above-mentioned Order of the Federal Tax Service states that the TIN assigned to an individual. person, again to another individual. cannot be assigned to a person. About physical We did not encounter individuals, but there were cases of “duplicating” the TIN with organizations, and this sometimes served as an accidental deletion of a really operating organization from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities as inactive.

If an individual is not an individual entrepreneur, he has the right not to indicate the TIN on applications, declarations, and other documents submitted to the Federal Tax Service. However, when registering as an individual entrepreneur or as a founder of a legal entity. persons, TIN, if a certificate has been received, must be indicated. If a citizen wishes, the TIN can be indicated in the passport.

Receipt

Receiving a TIN again is a simple procedure, because your individual number remains in the registry and simply needs to be restored. Re-obtaining an individual taxpayer number is possible as a result of a change of first or last name, as well as loss of a document.

It is important to note that when changing the first name, last name, patronymic, gender, etc., re-issuance of the registration certificate is not necessary.

Restoration of a document evidencing TIN registration is carried out free of charge or with the payment of a small fee for restoration in case of loss. The restored document is produced within five days. You can obtain it from the Federal Tax Service office.

It is possible to obtain a TIN again via the Internet. Let's briefly look at the steps in the form of instructions:

  1. Go to the nalog.ru resource and use the search bar to look for the request “Get TIN”.

    Search
    Search query on the Federal Tax Service website

  2. Next, you will need to switch to the service for obtaining a TIN, having previously logged into an existing user account or created a new one.
  3. Follow the instructions of the site and indicate detailed information about yourself in the window that opens. You can find out the TIN number that is needed to fill out the form by following the link (service.nalog.ru/inn.do).

    Window

  4. After this, you complete the process of filling out the application and submit it for registration. On the same page, do not forget to download the receipt for payment of services for restoration.
  5. A special form will appear with information about your application for subsequent monitoring.

Within 24 hours, a message will be sent to your email indicating the address for receiving the restored certificate.

TIN of an individual/individual entrepreneur

As already described above, the TIN of an individual (it does not matter whether he is an individual entrepreneur or not) consists of 12 characters. A document with a TIN number is issued either upon a personal application from a citizen (for example, applying for a job for the first time) or upon obtaining the status of an individual entrepreneur.

According to paragraph 2 of Art. 84 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation, the tax authority (territorial inspection) is obliged to register the applying citizen (or foreign citizen) within 5 days from the date of receipt of his application. At the same time, a certificate is issued in form 1-2-Accounting.

TIN stamp in the passport

Most recently, from October 30, 2021, the Federal Tax Service approved an official order that states that special marks in the passport are indicated with a citizen identification number.

This stamp will be placed on a special page of the passport. The individual code of the individual, date and signature are written directly on the stamp.

Stamp
This option is very convenient, because it eliminates the possibility of loss or damage to a separate TIN certificate. As a result, the code is stamped in the citizen’s passport and is always with him. There is no need to carry a separate document with you that indicates that a person has been assigned his code.

In order to put a stamp with an individual taxpayer number in your passport, you need to contact the tax service department that deals with the issue of servicing individuals.

The stamp itself is placed in black or blue and is located in the upper parts of the 18th or 19th page of the passport, if there is free space. If it is missing, then the stamp is placed on the same pages, only at the bottom of the document.

The code numbers are handwritten in the specially designated fields on the stamp. The date of application of the stamp is also indicated and the signature of the tax inspector who dealt with this issue is applied.

In order to put a stamp, you do not need any documents other than the passport itself. The mark is placed on the basis of data obtained from the official register database of the Federal Tax Service on the TIN.

If your information is not in the database, that is, you do not have an individual taxpayer number, the inspector will ask you to go through the procedure of obtaining a TIN certificate. After registration, information about the TIN is entered into the database, and you also receive the desired stamp in your passport with your unique code.

But still, there is one hitch, because the stamp in the passport does not have the same functions as a separate document. When applying for an individual electronic signature, you will still need to present the certificate. At the moment, this is the only difference between the mark in the passport and the original document. But still, in other cases, having a stamp is more convenient and practical.

Types and structure

TIN can be of two types. This is the TIN of a legal entity or individual. In parallel with this, they are divided into TIN for Russian organizations and individuals, and TIN for foreign organizations and individuals.

What does this code actually consist of? This is not an arbitrary set of numbers; it is assigned based on a special algorithm developed by JSC GNIVTs.

  • INN of the organization - ten-digit digital code: NNNNXXXXXC
  • INN of an individual - twelve-digit digital code: NNNNXXXXXXCC

Explanation of values:

MeaningTIN of Russian individuals and legal entitiesTIN of foreign individuals and legal entities
NNNNcode of the tax authority that assigned the TIN. For example, in the code 7720329391, 7720 is the code of the territorial Federal Tax Service No. 20 for the city of Moscow. It, in turn, consists of the code of the subject of the Russian Federation and the serial number of the tax inspectorate within the subject. the code is assigned by the Federal Tax Service. Example: 9909
XXXXX (XXXXXX)serial number of the entry about the person in the territorial section of the Unified State Register of Taxpayers (hereinafter referred to as the USRN) of the tax authority that assigned the TIN - 5 characters - for an organization (6 characters - for an individual);code of a foreign organization (FIO) according to the Directory “Codes of Foreign Organizations”, formed in accordance with the procedure established by the procedure
C (CC)checksum (1 character - for an organization, 2 characters - for an individual), calculated according to a special algorithm established by the Federal Tax Service (or rather, JSC GNIVTs).

Why do it over the Internet?

The Internet is increasingly providing users with various benefits and additional bonuses. What are the advantages of registering a TIN via the Internet?

  • Decor
    The most important positive aspect of creating a unique code is the significant time savings.

    Often in government agencies you have to wait in long lines to get into the office. If you use the Internet to register a TIN, you need to spend literally 10 minutes, given the fact that you don’t even need to leave your home.

  • In the electronic application, you can quickly and quietly correct errors that were made during filling out. This cannot be done on a paper form. You will need to fill out the application again.
  • If you register your code online, you can monitor the status of your application and follow its progress. The paper version generally lacks this advantage.

Electronic registration of a certificate of TIN assignment is much more convenient than the standard version. It's faster and more practical.

Absolutely anyone can register a TIN, regardless of their age.

Registration period and amount of state duty

The law defines the deadlines within which tax authorities must issue a certificate. This is 5 days. If it is issued for the first time, there is no payment of state duty. When re-issuing a document if it is lost, you will have to pay 300 rubles. If the inspection has the possibility of urgent restoration, then it is easy to calculate the cost of the state duty - it increases by 2 times.

Issuance of the original Certificate

A tax code is assigned to a person for the rest of his life, so the original TIN is issued only once. In case of damage, loss or theft, a duplicate is made.

Is it necessary to change the TIN when changing surname or place of residence?

When making changes to your passport (full name, date, month, year of birth), it is better to change the tax certificate. Although this process is not mandatory, changing the document will help its owner avoid bureaucratic delays. For example, when applying for a job, there is no need to collect documentary evidence that the passport, where the last name has been changed, and the TIN with the old information belong to the same person.

IMPORTANT! A change in place of residence is not grounds for replacing a certificate.

What to do if you lose a document

If the certificate is stolen or lost, it will have to be restored by the Federal Tax Service. Before you receive a TIN again, you must pay the state fee, attach the receipt to your passport and a written request to issue a duplicate.

How to find out your TIN

You can find out the once assigned code by visiting the Federal Tax Service or using their website. It is possible to do this through “State Services” by going through several steps:

  1. Log in.
  2. Select the tax category in the service catalog.
  3. Click “find out TIN”.
  4. Enter information and submit your application.

Very quickly the verification will complete and the number will be displayed.

How to make a TIN mark in your passport

Anyone can put a stamp on their passport about their tax code. This is convenient if you constantly need to provide this information to complete various documents or transactions. The mark is made at the tax office in 15 minutes.

How to fill?

There is nothing difficult in filling out the application form for TIN (form No. 2-2 Accounting); you can enter information into it by hand or print it by filling out the form electronically. documents you will need is an identity card of a citizen of the Russian Federation in order to accurately indicate your passport details. The application itself contains the following sections:

  1. The name of the tax authority, which is in charge of assigning TIN to individuals.
  2. The applicant's full name, gender, date and place of birth.
  3. Series and number of the passport, as well as the date and place of issue.
  4. Citizenship and place of residence (or stay), as well as dates of registration at this address; when moving to another region, you must indicate the previous place of residence.
  5. Contact telephone number and postal address, if it does not coincide with the place of registration.
  6. TIN number, if it was obtained earlier, and now only a certificate needs to be issued.

Additionally, copies of the main pages of the general passport are attached to the application. This small package of documents must be submitted to the tax office in order to launch a free procedure for assigning and issuing a TIN or a paid process for restoring the certificate if it is replaced or lost.

How to fill out an application? The Federal Tax Service employee himself talks about this.

We recommend reading other materials on our website about different application forms:

  • with a request to transfer salary to the card;
  • for the issuance of a work book and dismissal without service;
  • for registration of an LLC (form P11001);
  • on the transition to UTII, a simplified taxation system;
  • on state registration of changes (form P13001);
  • for deduction from wages;
  • to receive an extract from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities to the Federal Tax Service;
