In order to calculate the duration of a person’s labor or other socially useful activity—his work experience—it is necessary to have documents confirming this activity. The main one is the citizen’s work book, in which the employer had to record the dates of hiring and dismissal.

If any periods of work are not recorded in it, the person must find any other supporting documents: extracts from orders, archival certificates, employment contracts.

More about the calculator

We have developed a calculator for you to make it easier to calculate your insurance work history. Using it, you can accurately calculate your length of service in years, months and days. You can calculate both the total amount of the period worked and the amount of time devoted to service at one place of work.

If you need to know the size of your current pension, use our online pension calculator.

Young people need this because in the first years of work, sick leave is paid 100% only if the person has worked for a total of more than 8 years in a Russian company.

Legislative framework regulating issues related to STS

A single legal act that unites all the norms regulating labor relations is the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. It was accepted on December 21, 2001, but it does not contain the concept of special work experience, although there are occasional references to special working conditions.

Special working conditions are separately stipulated in government decree No. 665. It was adopted on July 16, 2014; the text lists in detail all the lists of jobs, positions, professional activities and existing industries that can be classified as harmful, dangerous, and difficult.

In addition, there are many federal laws of the Russian Federation with all the amendments and changes that regulate employment, benefits and features of the subsequent calculation of pensions for different categories of citizens. In particular:

  • No. 400-FZ (1.01.15), which determines, among other things, the calculation of insurance pensions;
  • No. 173-FZ (12/17/01), adopted to determine different types of activities when calculating seniority;
  • No. 166-FZ (12/15/01), which generally regulates pension provision;
  • No. 10-FZ (12.01.96), respectively - trade unions;
  • No. 3061-I (06.18.92) - for all categories of citizens who experienced the consequences of the Chernobyl explosion;
  • No. 384 (5.07.91) - for aviation services employees.

The lists of positions, specialties, special works and industries that are declared in the 29th resolution of the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation (05.22.96) are still relevant. True, they are now recorded in government decree No. 781 (10.29.02) and No. 516 (07.11.02). They are used when assigning long-service pensions, early retirement, and also when determining special working conditions. They approve the possibility of early termination of work and retirement. How to use the work experience calculator?

The calculator is very easy to use. To do this, you need a work record book or you can enter the data from memory (then it may turn out to be inaccurate).

All the features of our work experience calculator

The work book states:

  • the name of the company you worked for;
  • day of hiring;
  • date of dismissal.

This data is necessary for calculation. The data is entered in the format DD.MM.YYYY . Rounding by year occurs as follows: every 12 months are counted for the year, every 30 days for the month.

The date of hire should be entered in the left line, and the date of separation from service in the right line. Data must be entered on the days of actual hiring and dismissal from work. There are often situations when these dates differ from the actual ones.

Why indicate your full name?

You can provide personal information for convenience. This way you can calculate the length of service of several people without getting confused. We suggest that you take a screenshot of the page and then the calculation will not have to be done again in the future.

How to add places of work?

If you have worked in more than 4 places, you can add as many additional as you need. There is a “+ Add more” button for this purpose. It is located between the first column with the date of employment and the line for the full name.

How to remove extra lines?

If you made a mistake in filling out the data, you can delete the incorrect ones. There is a cross next to each window for entering dates. Click on it and the data will be erased. In this way, you can delete data from one window or several in a row.

The procedure for calculating special work experience

The rules for calculating periods of work giving the right to early assignment of an old-age labor pension were approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated July 11, 2002 No. 516.

Special work experience includes :

  • probationary period when applying for a job;
  • time of direct work at sites with harmful conditions;
  • time between shifts and between shifts;
  • periods of pregnancy of a woman if she is transferred from a “harmful” position to a regular one;
  • temporary disability;
  • employee leave;
  • time of forced absence due to illegal dismissal.

In this case, work under special conditions is counted if it was carried out full-time. If the enterprise experienced a reduction in production volumes and people worked part-time, the length of service is counted for the days actually worked.

In cases where an employee is removed from work (due to being drunk, not passing a medical examination, at the request of government agencies or other reasons), the special work experience is interrupted.

Formula and calculation methods

The program counts all days of years worked as insurance experience. Working days, weekends and holidays are counted according to the official state production calendar. This also includes periods of paid vacation and sick leave.

All days for which contributions were calculated and the employer sent deductions for them are included in the insurance period.

How is insurance experience calculated?

In addition to the summarized performance indicators of the employee who constantly paid insurance premiums, it should include:

  • Any type of activity by an employee located both in Russia and abroad (and who paid mandatory insurance contributions);
  • Any military service;
  • Receiving mandatory benefits while on sick leave;
  • The period of raising each child born in the family up to 1.5 years of age (the total stay should not exceed three years);
  • The time when a person received disability benefits and participated in paid work of a public nature;
  • Time of detention or exile which was subsequently unjustified or illegal.
  • Time to care for a disabled person of group 1, care for a disabled child or a person over 80 years of age;
  • Service under contract and all the time of residence at the time of service (but not more than 5 years);
  • Time spent living abroad related to work at a consulate or any other diplomatic or political relationship (the duration of such service and residence should not exceed 5 years).

All of the above periods can be counted towards the length of service provided that there is public order work.

In what cases will the calculation result be not completely correct?

You may have discrepancies with the data from our calculator and official data from your personal account from the Pension Fund.

The reason may be:

  • days that you did not take into account when manually entering, that you took without pay. Since insurance premiums were not paid for them, it means that they are not part of the insurance period;
  • Parental leave is counted towards the insurance period only until the child is 1.5 years old. That is, if you were on maternity leave for 3 years, the first 1.5 will count;
  • restrictions on the duration of maternity leave. A maximum of 4.5 years are subject to accounting. Let us remember that this applies to the first 1.5 years of a child’s life. Thus, you can go on vacation any number of times, but only the first 3 times are taken into account;
  • an error may occur if you served in the military and part of the years served was multiplied by a coefficient. It depends on the place of work and rank, usually this is a multiplication of experience by 1.5-2 times;
  • The data you entered incorrectly will be incorrect;
  • if you worked without signing an employment contract and entering your place of service in your work book, this data is not taken into account when calculating your length of service.

You may have other calculation difficulties. Let us know about errors in the comments and a specialist will answer you.

Legislative basis for calculating seniority

Citizens of the Russian Federation calculate their length of service according to the Federal Law “On Labor Pensions in the Russian Federation” No. 173, which entered into force on January 1, 2002.

Currently, the law does not have the concept of “work experience”; since December 31, 2001, it has been replaced by the clarified term “insurance period” , that is, the period during which a working citizen made contributions from his salary to the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation, and added other periods are legally justified for them. However, the phrase “seniority” is often used synonymously.

The insurance period is the duration of periods of work and other activities during which insurance contributions were paid to the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation.

Other ways to calculate work experience

To calculate your experience you can:

  • use our calculator;
  • view this information in your personal account as a citizen on the official website of the Russian Pension Fund;
  • make the calculation manually.

Please note that with manual counting, errors are most likely.

How to calculate experience manually?

To calculate your experience yourself, prepare a piece of paper and a pen. Write down the work record data starting from the first place of work and ending with the last, in order. We recommend that you line the sheet so that employment and dismissal data are written under each other, respectively.

We calculate the length of service according to the work book manually

If your work experience was not interrupted and you worked in the same place, just calculate the difference. If your work experience was interrupted, you should count the number of years, months and days at each place of work. Add up the results obtained.

Do not forget to subtract from the total number the number of days that you took at your own expense or days of maternity leave over 1.5 years per child.

We recommend that military personnel take into account the value of the military regional coefficient when calculating (multiplying by 1.5-2).

What professions are included in the special work experience?

Among the professions in which the period of work is classified as STS, the following groups are distinguished:

  • Carrying out teaching activities. This group includes all professions related to teaching, methodological and leadership work, regardless of age and categories of students. Approximately 25 years depending on employment conditions.
  • Flight test service, including astronautics: flight, engineering and inspection personnel, including training time.
  • Military service: on the territory of the Russian Federation, in united groups of the CIS and countries of military cooperation. Until 01/01/95 - in military formations of the CIS countries. The STS includes the period of employment after the transition from military to public service; time of captivity or unknown disappearance, unjustified termination of service, including arrest, after official reinstatement or acquittal. Internal affairs bodies, penitentiary, tax, customs, prosecutorial services. Fire safety workers and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
  • Public service.
