What kind of coupon is this, what is it for?
In current legislation there is no such concept as a warranty card . However, in paragraph 6 of Art. 5 of the Federal Law of the Russian Federation “On the Protection of Consumer Rights” states that the manufacturer has the right to establish a warranty period for its product, that is, the period during which the store, at its own expense, will have to eliminate all problems that arose not through the fault of the buyer. Read about what the law on the protection of consumer rights and other laws of the Russian Federation say about the warranty period here.
warranty card for equipment warranty card for equipment
As a rule, this period is specified in the coupon, which is issued to the consumer at the time of concluding the purchase and sale agreement. Thus, a warranty card means a document confirming the buyer’s right to repair and maintain the purchased equipment.
If the purchased product stops working for unknown reasons (before the warranty period expires), its new owner, having a warranty card with him, will be able to demand from the seller a free inspection and repair. This is precisely the main purpose of this document.
How to restore the warranty card?
If you have lost your warranty card, but you have a receipt, then you can contact the director of the store where you bought the product. You must submit an application in writing.
The application should ask the seller to provide a new warranty card due to the lost old card.
In general, there is no need to restore this document . The warranty card does not in any way affect the rights and obligations of the buyer and seller.
Because the Law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights” clearly states that in case of any problems with the purchased product, the buyer has the right to contact the seller with demands, even without having documents for the product in hand.
Warranty terms
In the Russian Federation, customer warranty service is provided under the following conditions:
- the manufacturer guarantees the elimination of all detected manufacturing defects of the product within a specified period of time;
- repairs can only be carried out during the warranty period specified in the relevant coupon;
- The serial number and model of the product being repaired must match those indicated in the documents;
- the control seal must not be damaged or destroyed;
- a product that has been repaired under warranty must have all the necessary equipment to make debugging possible;
- The manufacturer's obligations are solely related to the repair or replacement of the product. He is not responsible for installation, transportation, or restoration of the product after acts of vandalism, natural disasters, and so on;
- the terms of the guarantee cannot be interpreted as the terms of the insurance policy;
- the manufacturer of the product does not bear any responsibility for the repair, installation or relocation of an object produced by third-party individuals or legal entities;
- all faulty items that were replaced during warranty repairs are the property of the manufacturer and cannot be returned;
- the manufacturer of the product guarantees its replacement in all situations provided for by the Consumer Rights Protection Law.
The product will not be eligible for warranty service in the following situations:
- the damage received was caused by improper handling , as well as violation of the installation and operation rules prescribed in the instructions;
- the damage received was caused by fire, accident , careless handling, ingress of aggressive liquids, dirt, and so on;
- the product failed as a result of opening by an unauthorized person during the warranty period;
- , which have their own (and very limited) service life, have failed The same applies to parts that have lost their functions as a result of natural wear and tear;
- the product was reconfigured with the addition of new modes and functions , which ultimately led to a breakdown;
- the product has ceased to be operational as a result of the refusal of third-party companies to provide the necessary services;
- the product failed due to the fact that it was not used for its intended purpose.
If the cause of the problem does not fit any of the above situations, the consumer can safely contact the company to obtain a warranty repair service.
Seller's post-sale obligations
The scope of warranty service is almost entirely regulated by the Civil Code, which states that:
- Providing a guarantee for the repair of goods and replacement of spare parts is voluntary
. The law does not impose increased liability even on sellers of expensive electronics; - The range of responsibilities that a company can assume can be quite extensive: up to full reimbursement of the purchase price;
- The period during which the service will be provided is also set by the store. It can last for several years or just a few days;
- However, the Civil Code provides the buyer with a certain time frame during which he can submit claims to the seller regarding the quality of the purchase made;
- The maximum period for submitting claims is generally two years
. However, the distribution company is responsible for materials for construction and repair for a longer period of time; - Thus, the store is responsible for the products sold even when it has not established any additional obligations.

Warranty card
04.02.2020
A warranty card is a document certifying the fact of purchase of the product and giving the buyer the right to repair or replace the product in the event of a malfunction. Some consumers treat warranty cards formally, which is what sellers take advantage of.
In particular, store employees often do not fill out this document, assuring that a receipt and a store stamp are sufficient to obtain warranty service. Buyers who agree to this make a mistake and lose the right to service the product.
Let's consider how, by whom and under what circumstances the guarantee coupon should be filled out.
Warranty card: what is it and why is it needed?
A warranty card is a document certifying product quality . In particular, such a coupon indicates that the product can be used in full for the specified period. If, within a period of time specified by the manufacturer or seller, the product breaks down, the buyer receives the right to free repairs.
What should a warranty card look like?
There is no unified standard for this document, so stores have the right to use any forms. However, there are certain standards that the document must meet.

More specifically, the completed form must include the following information:
- Information relating to a specific product item. This includes the full name, model and serial number. It is necessary to clarify that the presence of all three listed identifiers is mandatory. The fact is that manufacturing plants can produce several products under the same name, while the products will differ in identification number or model.
- Date of purchase. Warranty service is provided for a certain period of time. The date indicated on the coupon is considered the starting point.
- Duration of service guarantees. This period can be set by both the manufacturer and the seller. It all depends on the recommended service life and the availability of service centers. Typically the warranty is valid for 1-3 years after purchase.
- Seller information. This includes the signature of the authorized person who completed the sale, the seal of the legal entity and the details of the selling company. Individual entrepreneurs indicate their full name and address of the outlet.
- Warranty repair conditions. This is a guarantee of protection of the rights and interests of the seller. In particular, situations are usually indicated here when the company has the right to refuse free repairs and warranty service. For example, if the consumer uses the product for other purposes, breaks seals, etc.

The need for numbering
No additional identification is required for warranty cards. However, this does not prohibit the seller from assigning unique numbers to the forms. Perhaps this will simplify the company’s internal document flow. If a number is assigned, it is written at the top of the form.

Correct filling
There are no strict rules for filling out warranty cards.
The main thing is that the information included in the document allows you to verify the fact of purchase of the product in a specific store, the person who made the sale and the terms of free service.
There should not be anything superfluous in the document. The warranty card is usually filled out by hand, with the exception of the paragraph concerning the rules for contacting the service center. Errors and corrections are not allowed.
Who does the registration and when?
Typically, the warranty card is filled out by the sales consultant at the time of purchase. However, you can issue a coupon even after warranty repairs have been carried out. In this case, the filling is carried out by an employee of the service center.
What is stated in the document
The warranty card contains all information directly related to the purchased product. It could be:
- Serial number;
- Color;
- Model;
- Batch number;
- Year/date of issue;
- Size.
Additionally, data regarding free repairs are entered if they were carried out:
- Full name of the service center;
- Receipt date;
- Date of return to the buyer.
In some cases, a list of work performed or parts replaced is indicated.
Availability of seals and signatures
The seal of the legal entity and the signature of the seller are desirable, but are not a prerequisite. The warranty card is not a document of strict accountability, so you can do without the listed certification methods. At the same time, the absence of a signature and seal is not a justification for refusal of service and warranty repairs.
What to do if the form is empty or there are mistakes when filling it out?
In such situations, the warranty card is invalid, however, this does not cancel the buyer’s right to free service. For such service, another document must be presented confirming the fact of purchase of the goods and the date of sale. A cash receipt or sales receipt can be considered such a document.
Considering that the law does not in any way regulate the procedure for filling out warranty cards, there are many violations here. The most common ones look like this:
- When filling out, indicate the data of the distributor or the official dealer-manufacturer. The fact is that consumers are not required to contact the manufacturer directly for repairs, although this option is not excluded.
- The delivery service makes its entries on the already completed coupon. Such edits make the document invalid.
- The coupon is not filled out. We noted above that the law does not oblige the seller to fill out this document. However, some stores provide their own extended warranty for the product, receiving additional compensation for this. In this case, a ticket without a signature and stamps is considered a violation.
What to do if lost
If we consider the situation as a whole, there is no need to worry about the loss of the warranty card. This is due to the nuances of document design.
In particular, the law does not give direct instructions to the seller to fill out a warranty card. The legislator only indicates that the transfer of all documents related to the goods is mandatory. In the current wording of Art.
456 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, the warranty card is not mentioned.

If you understand the specifics of returning products of inadequate quality and providing after-sales service, the consumer does not need the document. The fact of purchase can be confirmed:
- Purchase and sale agreement;
- Technical passport or operating instructions;
- Sales/cash receipt.
If issuing a coupon is of fundamental importance to the consumer, restoration is possible at the store where the purchase was made. However, this is possible provided that the seller has kept a copy of the completed document. Considering that warranty cards are not considered strict reporting forms, this is unlikely.
What to do if a fiscal document is missing
Even then, there is no reason to worry. In particular, there is a law that protects consumer rights. If we refer to Art.
18 of this bill, it can be found out that the absence of a cash register/sales receipt, as well as other documentation certifying the fact of purchase of goods, is not a justification for satisfying the buyer’s claims. This is directly indicated by paragraph 5 of Article 18 of Law No. 2300-1.
However, in this case, the consumer will have to provide convincing evidence that the product was purchased in this particular store. However, the law does not specify a list of such evidence, so the consumer can use any methods to prove his case. For example, invite witnesses or use video surveillance recordings.
Other features related to warranty repairs
Here we can highlight three interesting points that the consumer needs to know about.
- If the product is sent for service, the warranty period is extended. This is done by the seller or service center where the repair was performed.
- In the case when we are talking about the repair of large-sized goods, the seller is responsible for delivery. In this case, the consumer can deliver the product to the service center on his own; he has the right to demand reimbursement of transportation costs from the seller.
- In controversial situations, when it is unclear whose fault the goods were damaged, an independent examination is carried out. All interested parties can attend. If the seller’s guilt is proven, the consumer has the right to demand replacement of the product with a similar model. In this case, the warranty period is calculated anew from the moment the product is purchased.
Knowing these features, you can defend your consumer rights when conflict situations arise.
Is there a set form for completing the form?
Due to the fact that the law does not oblige manufacturers to issue such coupons, there is currently no officially approved form of this document. As a rule, each trade organization independently develops for itself a standard warranty card template . In this case, letterhead with the store logo is often used.
Reference . At the same time, the content of this document is almost the same in all stores. Often they differ from each other only in appearance. They are found both in the form of a separate sheet and in the form of a book with forms for issuing an original and a copy of the coupon.

What should a warranty card look like? How to fill it out?
The warranty card must be filled out by the store employee selling the product . This document must contain the following information:
- description of the product (product);
- series, product number, modification;
- name of the retail outlet where the product was purchased;
- seller’s details – store address, phone number;
- date of purchase of the product;
- store seal.
In addition to the fact that the seller must fill out a warranty card form, the document itself must also contain information about the terms of service, the repair procedure, and the conditions for replacing the product.
The cases in which the seller is obliged to repair the product free of charge must also be listed.
Errors when filling out a warranty card for household appliances and other goods
There are situations when the seller enters incorrect data into the warranty card. Therefore, before you buy a product, no matter what, Canon, etc., you need to check that the warranty card is filled out correctly.
The most common mistakes sellers make are:
- They enter into the warranty card not the data of the store where household appliances are sold, but the manufacturer’s data. This is not true. Information about the manufacturer should only be contained in the documents for the goods.
- There is no signature of the person selling household appliances or the seal of the store where the appliances are sold. The presence of only one seal without a signature is an option for incomplete, and therefore incorrect, filling out of the warranty card. If there is no signature and surname of the person who made the purchase, it will be difficult to understand which employee sold the refrigerator, microwave, etc.
- If household appliances are delivered by courier, then it is unacceptable for the warranty card to be signed by the courier. The document must be completed in advance by an employee of the store selling household appliances.
Let's look at an example of drawing up a warranty card for Bosch household appliances:
- The following information is indicated on the front side of the warranty card: name of the seller, date of sale of household appliances, signature of the person in charge, store seal, full name of the seller. Also on the front side of the document, the consumer is provided with information about where he can contact if he has questions regarding warranty and post-warranty service. The addresses of service centers, the cities where they are located, and contact information are indicated. At the very bottom, in large letters, it is indicated that when contacting the service department, the consumer must indicate the model and production date of the device.
- The following information is placed inside the warranty card for Bosch equipment: the batch number of the goods delivered to the Bosch representative office in Russia: model, date of manufacture, LSS code, must be filled in manually by a store employee when selling equipment. He must indicate the following data: name of the store, its address and telephone number, date of sale of the goods, cost (in numbers and letters), payment document, full name of the responsible seller selling the goods, signature, seal.
What should I do if I lose the coupon that allows me to repair the product under the current warranty?
Many buyers do not attach any importance to the safety of the warranty card, since they do not understand the significance of this document.
This document may be needed when repairing both expensive and not too expensive goods. Most service centers do not want to accept goods for repair without a warranty card.
Note! If you have lost your warranty card, contact the service center and get a duplicate.
The procedure for obtaining a duplicate coupon consists of drawing up an application sent to the SC and waiting for the result. If you want to get more detailed information, call the service center.
How to fill it out correctly?
- The information entered into the document should not contain anything superfluous.
- Information is entered without errors or corrections.
- Filling out is carried out by an authorized official.
- Information is entered by hand, except for the rules for handling in case of detection of a defect.
Who should do the registration and when?
The warranty document is filled out by the seller. It is issued at the time of delivery of the goods.
Data to be provided
It should indicate:
- Date and place of registration.
- Information about the seller and buyer.
- Product description – model, brand, color, year of manufacture. Additional information may also be provided, such as dimensions.
The document contains information about warranty repairs, if any - date of acceptance, return, name of the service center.
Signatures and seals
The presence of signatures and seals on the document is desirable. But this is not a prerequisite, since the coupon is not a strict reporting document.
What to do if your washing machine breaks down
When a washing machine under a valid warranty breaks down, you need to contact the seller. If the warranty period has not expired, then he is obliged to find and eliminate the defect. To find out how long this period is, you need to refer to the warranty card. Upon delivery, it is placed in a box with other documents.
When contacting the seller, you need to submit a request for repair of the machine. It is processed in the same way as a claim.
When connecting independently
If the installation of the washing machine at the place of delivery was not carried out by a specialist, then several defects are possible caused by incorrect installation:
- incorrect connection to the water supply;
- problems in the power supply (broken socket, insufficient power).
Therefore, you need to install the washing machine together with a specialist. If, during self-connection, the unit breaks due to consumer actions, then repairs under warranty are possible, but only at your own expense.
IMPORTANT: the seller must prove the buyer’s fault for the breakdown.
