  • Netherlands – you can work a maximum of 9 hours a day, 5 days a week (that is, 45 hours);
  • Switzerland – a 45-hour working week is legally established for industrial, technical and trade workers. Others can work up to 50 hours a week;
  • USA - employees of government agencies work 40 hours a week; for the private sector, working hours are not standardized;
  • Thailand and India
    – you can work up to 6 days a week for 8 hours (up to 48 hours a week);
  • Austria – the working day is up to 8 hours, and the working week is up to 50 hours.

It would seem that the Russian 40 hours a week is far from the worst option

, and even in comparison with much more successful countries. But in reality the picture may be completely different.

Other work performed beyond normal limits

There are other ways to get workers to work beyond the eight hours required by law.

One of them is working at night. If there is a production need, such work can be performed. However, the total duration of work should not exceed forty hours per week. This can be achieved by providing additional rest time equal to the duration of work. If this condition is met, no extra hours will be generated.

It should be borne in mind that night work should be reduced by one hour.

Overtime work is the common name for work in excess of normal working hours, which is performed at the will of the organization or entrepreneur, that is, the employer.

All cases in which it is possible to assign such work to an employee are clearly indicated in the law. The employer cannot change or supplement the list on his own.
